Insights were presented to The Principal of the school along with a brief discussion on immediately implementable and long-term strategies and ideas to implement key insights.

Student Council Yearly Agenda

The Student Council is a democratically elected body of student representatives. It comprises of two elected members from each section of classes 6 to 12. The main aim of the Council is to address the needs and concerns of the entire student body. However, these concerns are not always addressed effectively due to the sheer number and lack of time.

Hence, a yearly agenda method was proposed wherein all members of the student council work towards significant improvement in a singular concern. Re-imagining the school library to encourage children to read more can be defined as the agenda for a particular term.

Empowering children to make a difference in their immediate surroundings wherein they are the end users has the ability to make the library space more personal. Thus, reducing vandalism and increasing accountability.

In addition, working on live projects also has the ability to improve three qualities vital to a child's development - critical thinking, analytical thinking and problem solving capabilities.

Insights from the project were also presented to a Secior English Teacher cum Advisor to the School Library and a Language teacher enthusiastic about encouraging children to read more.

In conversation about the extent to which the School should expose children to new concepts and content, the following quote stood out to me.

"I believe that as an educational institution, we have a responsiblity towards the development of the child. I'd prefer to be a step behind rather than a step ahead of the kind of content they should be reading."

Senior English Teacher & Advisor to the library

This quote was specifically directed towards books written on pornography, sex and violence.
